Hardcover vs Paperback 89

The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale

Hardcover

Paperback

Amazon.com:

From New York Times bestselling author Shannon Hale comes an utterly satisfying novel that asks the question: Can a seemingly normal, happily married Mormon mother of four be best friends with Hollywood's hottest (happily married) heartthrob?

This book just sounds cute, I can't believe I haven't read it yet! I think the hardcover definitely POPS more so than the paperback. I do like the retro feel of the paperback though, especially the mixer, it's just too subtle though!

  1. I would go for the hardcover, too. I like the simplicity of the paperback, but I don't think I would notice it on a shelf.

  2. I have to say neither of these covers really grabs my attention all that much.

  4. Even though I like the hardcover better, it irks me. Anyone who's read the book knows that the housewife at the top of the cover does not remotely resemble the housewife character in the book.

If you look at the original hardcover, this is more true to what the housewife really looked like:

I prefer the paperback. The woman on the hardcover kind of creeps me out.

  7. I like the paperback! More my type of cover than ones with cheesy/scary peeps on them.

  8. You know what's super weird. I just looked at my copy of the hardcover which I got at BEA 2009, and I have the cover Beth S. pointed to! I wonder if we got the versions before they changed the cover?! Kinda neat!

  9. I thought the original hardcover was more appealing. The woman on the cover not only looked closer to the main character, but she looks more like a real woman. The current woman on the hardcover looks way too Stepford Wives for my liking.
